Essex Coat of Arms

The Coat of Arms for Essex

The arms were granted on 15 July 1932. The arms are those attributed to the ancient Kingdom of the East Saxons. These were regarded as the County arms long before the official grant. They were also used by Middlesex until they added a saxon crown to the design. The swords are distinctive notched seaxes, and thus an allusion to the word Saxon.

Each IBD County Page has or will have (where possible) the relevant Coat of Arms. This is made possible thanks to a fantastic heraldry website called the International Civic Heraldry Website. Sometimes a description is not given due to lack of information, so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. You may visit this superb site by using the link below.
