Nairnshire Coat of Arms

The Coat of Arms for Nairnshire.

These are the arms of Nairn County Council which was incorporated into Highland Region in 1975. The motto is Unite and be Mindful, and is a combination from the motto of the Brodie of Brodie family, 'Unite' and the motto of the Campbell of Cawdor family 'Be Mindful'.

The arms show a stag's head, taken from the arms of the Calder family, one of the most ancient and important families in the region. The golden colour and the two water budgets are taken from the arms of the Rose of Kilravock family, another important family and intermarried with the Calders. The red chevron is taken from the arms of the Brodie of Brodie family, whereas the silver stars are taken from a fourth important family, the Baillies of Lochloy.

The IBD Home Page and each IBD County Page has or will have (where possible) the relevant Coat of Arms. This is made possible thanks to a fantastic heraldry website called the International Civic Heraldry Website. Sometimes a description is not given due to lack of information, so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. You may visit this superb site by using the link below.
