A - Z Education Training is a training and consultancy company providing support to the Social
and Child Care sectors. We offer a variety of courses to meet the training needs of your staff
covering the areas of Older People, Mental Health Services, Learning Disabilities, and the
Protection of Vulnerable Adults or POVA.

A BRIEF OUTLINE ON SOME OF THE COURSES WE OFFER

The Protection of Vulnerable Adults - P.O.V.A
This course is designed to raise awareness of the different ways in which vulnerable adults can
be abused. It explores the different types of abuse, signs and indicators that can help us in
recognising abuse and the process of alerting and reporting.

Bereavement and Loss
The experience of bereavement and loss can take many forms and relates to different life experiences
as well as death. What ever the source of the grief, the experience has a tendency to run a long a
similar path. Research suggests that healthy grieving is when this path is appropriately followed
and completed and that when this does not occur, distress and dysfunction can follow. This course
provides an awareness of the different types of loss and how people can be supported through the process.

Training in how to deal with Challenging Behaviour
This course aims to give staff the knowledge and skills to enable them to anticipate and avoid
challenging behaviour. The emphasis throughout is on self-control rather than staff control of any
given behaviour. Within the course we explore the theory behind behaviour, triggers and consider
how behaviour may be prevented.

Assertiveness Training
This is a very interactive training workshop aimed to improve communication at work. A variety of
assertiveness techniques are taught and practiced by participants. There is the opportunity to seek
solutions to particular and current interpersonal issues and challenges. The course is useful for
workers who have difficulty with self confidence, speaking up in meetings, reviews and saying no
when reasonable to do so and making their own needs known.
